Top 10 Ambergis Caye

Please tell me yours as I have yet to go and I want to see what it is all about.
I watched a HouseHunters from there and it looked amazing.

I love Ambergris Caye, I'm not sure how good at making lists I am though.

The snorkeling at Hol Chan is awesome. Shark Ray Alley is fun too, the rays are really tame.

We get bikes and ride miles north on the beach. Then bar hop our way back to town.

Lots of tours to the mainland, my personal favorite is the ruins at Lamanai with Tanisha Tours.

Friendly locals, love chatting with the kids on their way to and from school.

White sand, blue water. Laid back, no need for a car, although renting a golf cart can be fun to explore.

Snorkeling

Bonefishing

Funky little downtown

One Barrel Rum

Blue Water Grill

Golf carts . . .

It's a good place to unwind. Didn't take excursions because we came after a few days in the Cayo.

Well, we've only been there once and only for a few days, but I'd go back in a second!

Definitely snorkeling at Shark Ray Alley and Hol Chan

Mexico Rocks snorkeling was beautiful as well - more colorful fish - smaller fish than Hol Chan

We did a sunset cruise that was just peaceful and romantic - on a catamaran.

We stayed at Portifino - it's north of the cut and and away from the town - but we loved it.

Great food everywhere we ate - dinner at the restaurant at Mata Chica's restaurant, Mambo, was really good.

Really, there wasn't much not to enjoy in Ambergris Caye!

What if we werent ones who wanted to get in the water or suntan?

We do love the beach and could sit for hours in the shade with cold drinks..

I'm pretty much a water wimp. It needs to be clear and calm and very warm to get me in the water. I've made trips to Ambergris where I never set foot in the water. Still had a good time.

Although, in all honesty, the beaches on Ambergris aren't nearly as stunning as what you'll find around Tulum on the Yucatan.

jeanh
i have been to Tulum and found that area very beautiful.
I am trying to decide where to go this spring for 1 week.
I would like to go to a new place.
any suggestions???

My favorite place is Ambergris, we'll be there for three months this winter.

That said, there aren't world class beaches, although they're pretty nice to look at.

Placencia is lovely as well. The beaches are actually prettier, wider, less piers. The sand isn't as soft or white though. It's a cool little town, hoping to get down there for a few days this winter.

Or, how about Isla Mujeres in Mexico. Fun beach town, nice beaches, great restaurants.
