tlaquepaque or downtown
We are planning on 2-3 days in Guadalajara as a side trip from PV. I can't decide whether we should be staying downtown or Tlaquepaque. We aren't much for shopping but do like good restaurants, architecture and just exploring charming areas of a city. Is downtown too busy so it will make it difficult for us to go out for a long walk each morning?
Is Tlaqupaque more difficult without a car? Thanks for your advice. Debbie |
ttt, Still trying to make this decision, let me know if anyone has some insight.

I'd stay downtown.
There's quite a lot to do and see in central Guadalajara and much of it is pretty pedestrian friendly, so the morning walk shouldn't be a problem. There's certainly a much larger variety of restaurants etc. downtown than in Tlaquapaque, though my wife and I do love prowling the shops over there for great deals on unique home decor items. (Tlaqapaque is not difficult without a car --- just use taxis to get around.) Have fun! Mark |
I am going to Guadalajara in the winter and I decided to stay in the City instead of Tlaquepaque. Ive heard that you can get there easily and that there is so much more to do in downtown Guadalajara. What does make it tough is that there are some very nice places to stay in Tlaquepaque.

Thanks for the advice. I have also seen some very cute places in town that are B&B or boutique hotels so I don't think finding a quaint place to stay will be difficult.

Hotel Morales gets great reviews and is very reasonably priced for the quality. How are you traveling from PV? I considered going there for a few days but I may just stay put in Guadalajara for the week with a few side trips each day.

We stayed downtown and took a day trip to TP. We thought it was the right way to do it. ((*))

You all are confirming my thoughts. I just see some good comments on staying TLP and it started to sway me but downtown it is. And yes, Hotel Morales was on my short list so thanks for that.
We are doing PV for a few days because I believe it has a good city life also, although much smaller. I have a hard time staying put in one area very long. Too much to see. Debbie |
