tipping with presents

When we go to mexico we tip the maid every day plus I bring her a little present-- perfume or a little purse from the U.S. We also tip the bartenders but is there any recomendations on a little present for them maybe a baseball cap ? Does anyone no what they like such as baseball team caps or Nike caps whats your opinion for a present along with cash?

I normally stick with cash for tipping. But grabbed a bunch of lighters with the Space Needle (i'm in Seattle) at the airport one year & gave them out to waiters and bartenders. They were a big hit.

Towerlady, you are just too nice! I don't think they make people like you anymore. May the Buddha bless you.

We have found that the bartenders love T shirts from the States!
My husband gave out some Bob Marley ones at the hotel where we stay every year, and they were a big hit.

Bet that maid had a Rita Moreno style bitch-fight to hold on that purse when she got back to the barrio that night.
