tipping privat e drivers

Any recommendations on tipping private drivers. We have someone driving us from San Jose to Arenal and then from Arenal to MA.
Thanks

We usually tip around %15, but I have no idea if that's appropriate. Standard tipping in CR is usually 10% for places like restaurants.

hiya, 10-15% is good, also depends on how courteous, safe, reliable etc he turns out to be. Have you hired him yourselves or through an agency, ie do you know how much he's really being paid ? Have a good trip.

I went from san Jose to MA. It was a 4 hr drive. This was an all day affair for the driver who could make more money arround san Jose.

The driver stooped several times and helped the 3 of us to shop for food.

The ride was $100 and we tipped him $50. He was ecstatic.

Tis was 4 years ago.

I hired him myself. I actually contacted Leo from alot of recommendations from this board, but I'm not sure if we will have Leo himself as our driver since we are only using him for 2 days and not our entire trip.

As you're hiring him yourself and therefore he;s gettting the whole amount and not giving part to any agency you could give around 20%, obviously the more you give the happier he'll be, but see how safe, reliable, pleasant etc he turns out to be and tip him accordingly. Have fun.
