Tipping In Mexico

I'm staying in Oaxaca at a 3-star hotel just off the zocalo that has 3 stories and no elevator. Anyone have any suggestions as to an appropriate tip for whoever brings my luggage (a 22" roller and a small duffle) up to my room?

Also, I'm assuming tips in US dollars are appreciated. Does anyone know if the novelty of the gold dollars has any special appeal? I don't mind bringing some along if they're a hit down there, but if currency is just currency I'll stick to the lighter and more compact old bills.

I would think that you should give that person at least five dolllars, if he has to carry this luggae up three flights. Not sure about the gold coins, because most banks in Mexioc wiil not take American coins or will not accept any bills that are torn at all

Of course--I hadn't even considered the banks and coins thing. Thanks for a sensible reply that will reduce the weight of my luggage!

Foreign coins are not exchanged in Mexico, so this helps you with one question.
The usual tip in Mexico for bellboys in a 3-4 hotel (and in the airport) is something around $10 pesos per piece of luggage, so I guess that $2 to $3 dollars would be enough.

ten pesos.
