My husband and I will be arriving into Belize City at 12:15 on a Sunday. Our connecting Tropic Air flight isn't scheduled to depart until 5pm. We have heard great things about the zoo. I'm reading on their website that it is about an hour from the airport. Would it be too much chaos to try and hire a driver to take us to the zoo and back while we wait for our flight? I'm not sure how long it takes to get through customs and get baggage (if we check anything).

With a good guide you'd be fine. Do plan to fly carry-on only, you'll be out of the airport in 15 or 20 minutes, based on my experience. I can recommend Raul Marchand [email protected] - he's friendly and reliable and would take good care of you.

I'm curious where you're flying on Tropic that you have to wait until so late in the day to go. Are you sure there isn't an earlier flight?

Ooo - good point, Jean. I missed that entirely. If you ask ahead or even at the airport they might let you on an earlier flight if you're interested.

Thanks, guys. I emailed Raul and he is available and said we would have time to get there spend an hour and get back to the airport at 4.

As for the flight, we are waiting on our travel buddies to arrive from a West Coast flight that doesn't land until 4. The Tropic flight was based on when they arrive since we are all traveling together and being picked up by the lodge.
