Well, I'm using this board to organize my first trip to CR this Aug. I HAVEN'T EVEN BEEN THERE YET AND NOW I'm focusing on a winter trip with my husband. I sure hope I like it as much as I think I will. My husband and I will spend 3 weeks. Since my Aug. trip will be in Playa Flamingo I will want to see all the other great areas I keep reading about. I thought I might start by looking in VRBO to see what is available to rent. A week on the Carribean side seems like a good idea. Maybe 4 days in the Arenal area and 4 days in MA and then on to Monteverde. Any areas I should think about renting for a week's stay? I'd like to avoid always moving on but it might be the most practical . Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

We've rented a large house in playa Agujas (just north of Punta Leona) last year and we are renting another house for a week in Manuel Antonio this August. We like having a home base for an entire week. We had plenty to do to keep us busy around Playa Agujas and I'm certain we'll have lots to do in Manuel Antonio as well... I don't think you could go wrong in either place. 3 weeks will be fabulous! You could always consider heading north to Nicaragua for a week as well... I've heard fabulous things about Nicaragua. My time in CR was mostly work, however what a beautiful place. I did get a chance to spend a night at the Volcano Lodge and totally fell in love with it and the town. I'd do anything to get back there.

Have a wonderful time. I did do a trip report and man I took some major heat regarding religion.

I did not know of this site until RIGHT before we left for CR in May 2005. It was immensley helpful, being aware of theft, etc., prevented any negative experiences. JUST LOVED CR. Three years later, THIS FORUM IS STILL ADDICTIVE and ENJOYABLE. It is one of my favorite passtimes - and a form of good, clean fun. My 24 and 21 yr. old will call or walk by me on the computer and say, "Are you on the Costa Rica forums again?!!" Keep enjoying Fodor's and Costa Rica. I dream of the time I get to go back! Dyer - I am the exact same way. I went to CR about a month ago and dreaming about a trip back. I love to visit Fodors & Trip Advisor so I can live vicariously through all of the threads and chats. I want to go back next year ....
