hip, what does your daughter think about being famous? The book would make a great gift for her!

She's actually being rather coy about it. I guess we'll see the look on her face when the book comes.

My copy was delivered today. I must say I am very impressed!!!! So many beautiful photos and good organization and content.

Funny thing - when the actual contest was on I remember being a bit miffed since according to the rules us "aliens" - ie Canadians were not eligible. But I sent off some photos anyways - I guess sort of in spite... and then forgot all about it. Even if I had been eligible, given all the great photographers out there, I never would have had a chance. So I was really surprised and pleased when my picture was included. So maybe the old saying is true (paraphrased a bit) It doesn't matter if you win or lose but that you played the game...

Good work Fodors and everyone else included in the book.

Pura vida

Raquel, that's awesome - I think it's strange not to include Canadians. Can't wait until my book arrives.

Sorry about that Raquel! I assume it's not just Canadians, but anywhere outside the U.S. --- One would think... Anyway, glad you were able to sneak in through the back door. ;-)

hip, just got mine this evening. AWESOME photo of Alex. I had, of course, seen it, but so cool that it made the guide and so nice and big! Congrats!

No, it is not just Canadians at all. Most contests seem to be open only to US residents. However, I just checked the recent ones, and the Italy contest is actually open to Canadians (except in Quebec) I am sure that it relates to some kind of regulations. But wow - look at the prize on the Australia contest!!

I am just happy to have received a copy of the guide. It is more than I ever expected. I guess the irony is that had I actually have been eligible for the contest, I probably would not have bothered submitting any photos as I know I'm not a photographer. I guess it was like a "protest vote"...

Yes, Hip, the photo of your daughter is so adorable!! So much character.

I'm having fun going through this thread and matching names to pictures in the book. (My copies arrived early this week.) As someone myself who cannot take pictures worth a darn and who doesn't really enjoy taking them, I'm very impressed. To all of you here, nice job!

Percy, have you had your surgery? I hope thing go/went well.

I got my book too - apparently it was delivered last night, but I didn't see it until this morning when I left for work. Looking forward to seeing everyone's pics! Katie, thanks for sending all these out and including our pics - a lot of work for you!

Percy, I hope things went well too. Give us an update if you get a chance. Will be nice to put this behind you.

I love the new guide, but no time to read it since I leave Tuesday for three weeks in Costa Rica. I found my quote, figured it would have to be on Tortuguero since I'm so crazy about it and I was right! My photo of my two Tica chicas is little, but that's ok, it looks great.

Thanks, Katie, the new guide is super and it's so much fun to see everyone's photos and quotes.

A little stress on this end - one of my French houseguests fried my computer tower Wed. night by plugging my camera cable into my surge protector strip. I need some Pura Vida big time, going loco w/o e-mail at home.

Dinner Tuesday night at Cafe Mundo with my Tico amigo, am in need of an Imperial or two...

I loved the pic of the man holding up the fish and looking so exuberant - janienicole, was that yours?!

They're all great. Is this the first year the guide has been in color? I think that makes a huge difference. I'll have to look through the whole thing this weekend.

col, oh no, that would put me into withdrawal - hope you get it fixed soon!

Vg, my photo is on pg.547. My husband looks like the fish is about to pull him over - he was holding it away from his body, trying not to get slimed!

Colibri, lucky you, going in few days! Have fun!

jn, I love it!

I was looking through the guide, and I think it has a wonderful personal feel to it. I noticed that several of the hotels will note that it's a particular favorite of the fodors.com board. Katie, please pass our compliments on to everyone involved.
