The Jungle Place - Akumal
We are planning a visit (with an overnight stay) to the Jungle Place (Kuxi K'aax) animal sanctuary and bungalows - just west of Akumal.
Would appreciate input from anyone who has visited or stayed there - hints about the accomodations, activities, what to bring, meals in the area, etc.? From what I can glean online and from guidebooks, Akumal is the nearest place for restaurants, etc., but we'd also like to get off the beaten track. The group ranges from grandpa to 5 year old - any suggestions about cenote or cave access "for all ages"? Thanks for any pointers.... |
jw2,
Go over to locogringo.com, and do a search. There are several posts about the jungle place there including a trip report with lots of great pictures by a couple who went. I have not been myself but do know you need reservations and the donation to visit the monkeys is $30. Not sure if they would let your 5 year old in the cage with the monkeys or not. They kind of make up their minds based on how well the children take direction, such as being told not to do something. |
A week later and nobody on the line who has stayed at this place ????
Oh, well, maybe I'll break down on returning and do a "Look where I have been that you haven't!" trip report. But in the meantime, I'd sure like to get some input... |
I don't think they have been open very long at all and Fodors IS a pretty small community. Not surprising no one here has first hand input for you. Did you try LocoGringo?
Why the snarky "thanks for nuttin" response? |
I spent a week in Akumal a couple of years ago but I've not heard of Kuxi K'aax. We are returning to the Yucatan this November so if you write a trip report before that I'll check it out...
By the way our favourite restaurant in Akumal was Turtle Bay Cafe (great smoothies and casual food) There's also a place on the beach (Half Moon Bay) called La Lunita. Check out their website. |
OK so I looked at a couple of websites and my feeling is it will be buggy. I hate mosquitoes and the Jungle Place looks like the place to meet up with lots of them! Sooo, based on that take plenty of Off with you. :)

jw2 I stayed at this place and you will love it... Have a great day

Thanks for the tips, I knew there would be somebody on this board with some info! BTW Locogringo was the 1st place I checked, but I usually find this Board more able to provoke real-time observations, tips, hints, etc.
And, Gee - I've been called a lot of things, but "snarky?" I am highly offended, chagrined, and chastened - in the very depths of my being...Ooops- also probably snarky. Here I thought I was just being sort of ironic, light-hearted and friendly-like. I promise to be more neutral and bland in the future (NOT). |
PS - I guess I really CAN do a "places I've been that most of you haven't" report - and will do one on our return!
