Thanksgiving in Central America question
My wife and I are hoping to do a long Thanksgiving weekend in either Belize or Costa Rica. We are hoping to find a resort with our own cabana/tiki hut, meals included with lot of different activites offered, but is also within a reasonable drive from the international airport. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Would you consider Nicaragua. There is MONTELIMAR RESORT AND CASINO, an all inclusive resort owned by BARCELO. Look at www.barcelo.com
It is only 45 minutes drive from the airport, right on the Pacific Ocean. Beautifull beach, great views, very safe, all inclusive and not so crowed.
Adios

Yes, we would like a beach. I checked out www.barcelo.com and it didn't have that much info on it.
It seems like most places are another flight from either San Jose or Belize City. Has anyone ever stayed at these places?

Lapa Rios is on the Osa Peninsula. You would need to fly Sansa or NatureAir to get there. It would be a good time to go. I can recommend Bosque del Cabo (as can many others on this board) as being very beautiful with lovely individual cabanas and meals included. It is a bit less expensive than Lapa Rios, but very close in proximity.
If you are not interested in flying within the country of Costa Rica, you might seriously look into the Manuel Antonio area--about 3 hours from SJO airport. I don't think there are any all-inclusives there, but there are plenty of very nice places to stay.
Also, if you don't mind catching a puddle-jumper within the country, you might want to check out the MalPais/Santa Teresa area at the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. Very beautiful there. Not all-inclusive, however.
There are 2 Barcelo properties on beaches in Costa Rica. One is Barcelo Playa Tambor (also on the southern tip of the Nicoya--near Tambor which has an airstrip). The other is about a 5 hour drive from SJO--Barcelo Langosta near Tamarindo on the northern Nicoya peninsula. Both are AI.
