I think a cab from the Cancun airport to Playa Del Carmen is about $40-50.00. There's a bus that runs almost hourly from the airport to PDC for $6.50. I'm not familiar with the hotel you mentioned, but if it is in Playacar, the cab fare from the bus station in PDC would be about $5.00.

Hi, Dorothy!

Don't take a cab from the airport, it's very expensive ($40-$50 range). I suggest a colectivo, which is our version of a mini-van. I used the colective in Nov. and cost was $9 US. Will take you to any hotel in Cancun. The ride is a little longer because they take several passengers at once and drop all at their respective hotels, but it's worth the savings, and if you luck out, you'll be one of the first stops. Can't remember the name of the company, but it's outside the terminal when you arrive. A taxi back to the airport is much less expensive. I paid $14 US+tip.

Also wanted to let you know that the colectivos will not pick you up at your hotel, so a taxi will be necessary.

The only time you'll get a round-trip collectivo is in a package deal, and the cost is included in the package.

Helena,
Was the $14 taxi fare from Cancun hotel zone back to the airport?
Helena Feb 15th, 2003 08:09 PM

It was $14 from downtown Cancun. Ask at the hotel and they will give you a rate. Can't imagine it being too much more than that. Don't know why the fare is much less to the airport from the hotel, and it doesn't make much sense, but that's the way it is.

Dorothy, the mini-van that Helen mentions is the best deal, but note that the price is per person. You didn't say if you are traveling alone or in a group, so do the math to figure out whether the mini-van is a better deal than a taxi. Also, she is right about it being cheaper for a taxi back to the airport. I don't know why either.

The Mexican government puts a tax on all taxis leaving the airports in Mexico. This is why they are always higher going then coming. The taxis may be by zone in Cancun and the hotels should know how much before you book one.
