taxi from san jose to arenal

I will be in Costa Rica the first week in May and our flight lands just after the last bus leaves for La Fortuna. We don't want to stay in San Jose long at all. How much would a taxi cost from San Jose to Arenal or La Fortuna? Please respond! Thank you

I imagine a lot... Have you thought about hiring a private driver to take you instead? Or you could also stay the one night outside of the city in alajuela which has some wonderful little hotels and then start off to Arenal first thing in the morning.

Hi,
Taxi, probably about $150 could be a little less.
Van with private driver, mine are $120.
Stay near airport, eat at beautiful overlook restaurant that views the whole valley at night in Alaluela. And, leave next morning early for Fortuna. Interbus, $25.

Let me know if I can help with your plans.

We hired a private van & driver to pick us up from the airport and take us to Monteverde for $100. Cost for La Fortuna is same (for up to 4 people).

http://www.monteverdetours.com/transport/index.htm

From the site:
"We can take you to Arenal / Fortuna from San Jose by a private 4x4 or van with AC and driver. Service is door to door. Departs any time. Rates for up to 4 people $100, additional passengers $15 each. The least complicated way to go. Takes about 3 hours."

I personally would recommend this mode of transport... It was relaxing and we could just watch the countryside. Our driver took us to a nice restaurant for lunch, which was great.

Good luck! Have a good trip!
