Taking food into Mexico

Hey,
I am traveling to Playa del Carmen in m\May and want to pack some food to take with us in a cooler. do you know of any restrictions on this?

Thanks

Your food needs to be in factory sealed containers. There are plenty of grocery stores in Playa that would more than likely serve most of your needs. The one thing I do like to take is coffee just for personal preference. What kinds of things were you thinking of taking?

They have agricultural inspection like we do. You are pretty much limited to packaged foods. Unless you want to bring something really unusual you can just go to Gigante or wherever and but what you want.

That would be Mega or WalMart or Soriana or Chedraui. There are plenty of smaller markets also.

I'm not sure the reason you'd need to take food with you. There's wonderful grocery stores in Mexico. I'm pretty sure there are restriction on many fresh items, though you could take canned goods or sealed packages I think.

SOME packaged foods are allowed--we had beef jerky taken away from us--factory sealed, unopened.

OK thanks to all for the information. I am traveling with a picky eater so I wanted to take a few items just to keep them happy. As long as I know the rules I'll be ok. Again thank you for the help!
