Tabacon location

Please let me know how far this resort is from the San Jose Airport. And how one would get there.

Hi Fran: I think it would be about a 3 hour drive from the SJO airport. They have buses, but not sure how long that would take. You could rent a car and drive yourself, or hire a car and driver.

Rent a car and see the countryside at your own pace in the daylight. Pura Vida..... Ahhhh

Was just there in Nov. I would not drive from San Jose to Tabacon. Although the road is paved, it is two-lane,so if you get behind a bus, truck, etc. it will be very slow going. Also to say it is winding is an understatement. Signs letting you kow what road you are on are few and far between...especially when it winds through one of the small towns. Hire a driver or take the bus!!!

We drove from San Jose to Tamarindo and then from Tamarindo to Tabacon Resort. The drives were long and full of adventure! The drive from Tamarindo to Fortuna was a heck of a drive (long, windy, and bumpy), but beautiful (around the lake) and very fun! We also drove from La Fortuna (Tabacon) back to San Jose. Again, it was a very nice trip! We found the drive BACK to San Jose to be more confusing than the first, but would not change our experience for anything! We rented a small 4x4 and drove the last week of our honeymoon. It allowed us to see the country side, experience gas stations and road side restaurants, and more of the culture. The roads are bad, but coming from a rural background, it was not the end of the world! The bad roads, confusing road signs, crazy drivers, slow trucks, etc just added to the overall Costa Rica experience. Sure, we got lost, got a ticket and a flat tire, got behind slow trucks and bumped around by the pot-hole infested roads, but we also had a wonderful time! Even picked up a hitchhiker who spoke no english, but pointed out all of the sights along the way, and helped us navigate when the road signs made no sense. I would rent a car again in a heartbeat -- it was a wonderful time!
