Swim with Dolphins in Cozumel

Has anyone experienced swimming with the dolphins in Cozumel? I'm going there in a few weeks and would like to know of any recommendations and if there up and running since Wilma.

The one place on Cozumel to do this was completely destroyed by the hurricane, but the rest of Cozumel is recovering nicely.

Chankanaab Park is being rebuilt and should reopen soon if not already. I haven't heard anything about the dolphin "program." Hopefully, it will NOT be rebuilt.

Those swimming w/dolphins programs are awful. Please don't condone them by visiting one.

It is disturbing for children.

The dolphins are squeaking, "Set me

free!" all the time.

Please rethink your need to do this and do some research on the possible ramifications of your doing so.

I would definitely read up on what this money making industry is all about and the cost to the animals it takes capture.

The price these animals pay for your amusement.

Jules, I don't believe the dolphin program has reopened in Cozumel. I heard while we were there in Feb that one of the dolphins had died after being moved during the whole Wilma experience. To answer your question (and not be judgemental on your desire to do this), my niece and sister did it a couple of years ago. They loved it. As far as dolphin programs go (and again I'm not condoning them) it seemed to be run well. There were several different offerings - from the get in and spend up close time doing tricks with the dolphins to simple being on a bridge in the water as dolphins swam near. This last for very young children with parents.

Check with your hotel as to the availablity of the program. In Feb they were saying that Chankanaab Park would be reopen in about a month, but didn't mention the dolphin program.

So what do you know about Dolphin care, capture, and the effects of stress when dealing with humans and other strangers.

Would you put your dog, kitten, or kids in an enclosure to be mauled over by strangers???
