SWF safe in PR?
I might have a chance to work in Puerto Rico for a year, and would like to know if it is safe for a single english teacher to live and work there. Obvously, all of my friends work and can't just pick up and leave for a year, and I've always wanted to go, I just might have to do it alone.
Should I reconsider? And what places, if I do go, should I stay away from? I don't mean to sound naive, bit I ask the same questions re:any new place I'm thinking of going, safety is a priority. So if I've offended anyone, don't mean to. Thanks!! leah. |
aliasme,
Our daughter has lived in Puerto Rico for a year. Although she hasn't been alone there (fiance, not husband), she has never felt unsafe. To me, it seems sort of like another state, only a Latino one. English is very widely spoken. I think the same rules would apply there as any city, any state in the U.S.--be smart, use caution. It sounds like a wonderful opportunity! By the way, she lives in Fajardo, on the northeast side. Humacao, south of there, seems like a very nice town, and I know it is a popular one for people to visit. She has spent quite a bit of time in Dorado, west of San Juan, as well. Carolina, just east of San Juan and close enough to be very convenient, looks to be a good area. Good luck to you! |
LOL-- I meant to say fiance, NOW husband.

"LOL-- I meant to say fiance, NOW husband."
That's a Freudian slip if I've ever seen one. |
You think therapy is in order?? :)
