Surfing & Diving in Costa Rica?

I'm planning a group trip to Costa Rica for Feb/March 2012. Our group is fairly active, and divided between wanting to scuba dive and go surfing. Are there any areas in Costa Rica which would make a good base for ~1 week and would appeal to both divers and surfers alike?

Puerto Viejo de Limon.
Do a search for Salsa Brava. 3 different breaks in the area. Beginner to Advanced (arguably the bigest wave in Central America)

Scuba... Huge stretch of barrier reef, lots of coral and fish.
Check out Reefrunnerdivers.com

Tons of other activities in the area.

Tamarindo is a great place to stay with some great condos and houses to rent. World class waves right in town and great scuba diving nearby. You will have a great time.

Thanks! I'll add Tamarindo to the list of places to consider.

February and March are great months to dive on the Pacific since the waves are generally smaller. The Caribbean has most of their bigger surf at that time of year, so it may not be ideal conditions (June or October are better months). Tamarindo is a fun place to stay, and although quite crowded during high season (and quite developed), you are close to diving off the Catalina Island and Bat Islands. A second option would be in a more natural/jungle setting in Dominical, or just south of there. You would surf there, and take trips to diving off Isla del Caño.
You can get surf reports, rent vehicles, and find places to stay here - crsurf.com. For dive tours in Tamarindo - aguarica.net, and in Dominical - www.southernexpeditionscr.com
