Sun, beach, jungle and adventure...WHERE?!

My fiance are looking for a destination for the month of september or october (2011). We would like sun, beach, jungle adventures...Not really into the long distance hiking tours. Any suggestions of where to go for this type of holiday? We are specifically looking for adventure tours but with GOOD accomodation as well.

What do you mean by GOOD accomodations?

hopefulist Oct 20th, 2010 06:08 AM

For a whole month? Sweet! Do you want to rent a place and stay put or are you interested in moving a bit to experience different environments and adventures? Budget? Tell us more and we can help you more!

No, sadly not for an entire month. I meant for some time during september or october, btwn 8-12 days probably. By good i mean, it doesnt have to be extravagent, however we do not wish to camp either haha. So somewhere in the middle? However to end the trip (final 3 nights or so in an all inclusive could be nice as well!) Oh, we don't really know what we want!! :)

Interested in moving around a bit, (2 nights here 2 nights there. Adventures are fun, and tour busses/vans in groups is fine, just not the accomodation part (this is a honeymoon) ;)

Belize and Costa Rica are both good options, although that's the rainy season so weather could be dicey.

That's what i hear. Belize is a good suggestion too...thanks. I'd love to go to Costa Rica. Anyone know of any all inclusive hotels in costa rica that are any good? Because maybe we could do an all inclusive stay and do day excursions from there.

CONGRATULATIONS! Hope you can look back on your wedding in 30 years and be as happy with your choice as I am. ;)

Belize is a great choice imo. Try for 12 days rather than 8, you won't be sorry! With 8 days, pick 2 spots, inland and island/coast. With 12 days you could add a 3rd.

The Cayo District is a great place for caving tours and visits to ruins including magnificent Tikal in Guatemala which deserves an overnight. Places we've stayed in the area (loved them all for different reasons!) are
The Trek Stop www.thetrekstop.com
The Aguada www.aguadahotel.com
Macal River Jungle Camp www.belizecamp.com
The latter is the jungly cousin of Chaa Creek, one of the highest reviewed jungle lodges anywhere:
www.chaacreek.com

In addition to an overnight to Tikal you should check out the Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) cave trip:
http://pacztours.com/actun-tunichil-muknal.html

A great adventure lodge just south of Belmopan in central Belize is Caves Branch Lodge; you can do the ATM trip from there in addition to their own caving adventures:

Most people spend their blue water time on Ambergris Caye or Caye Caulker (more laid back and budget-oriented). You can access good diving and snorkeling from either, though not so much from shore. I don't know anything about all inclusives since we don't prefer them. If you'd consider an apartment, check out Sailwinds on Caulker:
http://www.staycayecaulker.com/sailwinds.html

If you have a longer trip, consider Hopkins Village for a 1st or 2nd stop.

It's a Garifuna village so don't miss the punta drumming:

There are lots of lodging options including the Hopkins Inn which we love:

Lots of additional info and tons of photos at this link (blog and/or detailed travelogue links on the main page of each collection):

Happy trails! Keep us posted!

I think Mexico or Central America are great ideas, but the months you mention are not. It's the rainy season most places I would usually recommend.

hopefulist Oct 20th, 2010 01:06 PM

There's a slight risk of hurricanes but we've visited Belize in August twice and the rains have fallen almost exclusively at night - no problem at all, everything green, prices reduced. It's been a great time to visit for us.

You can find a really cool condo in Tamarindo, Costa Rica for $800 month or so. The town has everything you mention

Thanks so much guys we have a lot to look into now!! :) This gives us so much! We are both loving the Belize idea, as it has cave tubing as well. Something I tried and LOVED in new zealand.

We did a split between the Cayo District and Ambergris; it's a nice combo of jungle and beach/snorkeling.
