Suggestions for Cancun Day Excursion
Hi everyone, we're planning to be in Cancun for 5 nights and wanted to do a day excursion. Does anyone have any recommendations for day trips? We definitely wanted to see some Mayan ruins if possible.
Any info would appreciated! |
Alltournative's trip to Coba is very popular, and one version of it leaves from Cancun. Everything is covered in the price, including transportation.
You could also go to Tulum and combine that with a bit of a visit to cenotes or Playa del Carmen. Steve |
I would recommend the Chichen Itza tour. You will be gone all day long, but it is worth seeing. We went in a small group by van, and we were very glad that we did. Seeing all the other groups with their big busloads of tours made us all the happier that we had SIX people in our group. It cost $89 per person, and it stops at the Cenote for swimming after visiting the ruins. Here is the link where I purchased mine, if you are interested: http://www.shoretrips.com/common/sea...p;tcode=001010. Have a great trip!

I agree you must go to Chichen Itza for ruins, I would also suggest a one day tour to Cozumel which includes a visit of the island with snorkeling and beaches, or you can arrange only for trasnportation and visit the San Gervasio ruins in Cozumel island,
Enjoy !! |
If you want to save some money and still have a great day, hop on the bus to Puerto Juarez and take the ferry over to Isla Mujeres. Once there you can rent a golf cart and tour the (small) island, or just walk to Playa Norte and enjoy. You can also book a snorkel excursion while there if you're interested. Jean

when you're heading south to Tulum, make time to swim/snorkel in Grande Cenonte -- it is the prettiest and is close to Tulum (just remember to bring your swimsuit, towel and snorkel). For lunch stop at CASA CENOTE -- it is a great little off the beaten path restaruant right on the beach. the fish tacos are amazing and worth the excursion.

Thanks everyone for the tips! I definitely want to go on the Chichen Itza tour. It sounds great!

There is also a horsebackriding ranch and tour lunch included. You ride the horses along the beach, and are able to ride into the ocean if you like. It was awesome. I will never forget it, I enjoyed it a lot as did the family. The lunch is just o.k.

Here's a couple ideas:
* Tulum & Coba: rent a car for as little as $25/day and drive yourself. Leave early in the morning to beat the crowds. It's about $4/person to enter each of the sites. Easy drive down a good highway. * Xcaret: not cheap, kind of touristy, but fun, especially for teens. Good night show too. Bus trips sold all over Cancun, but you can also rent a car and drive yourself. * Isla Mujeres: Take the bus direct to the ferry docks at Puerto Juarez for 6 pesos (60 cents). From there, its 35 pesos for the high-speed ferry over to the island. Bum around on Playa Norte, or rent a bike or a golf cart and see the whole island. * Chichen-Itza: Someone quoted tour prices of $89/person. Keep in mind that you can also do a trip for 4 people on that much money if you rent a car and drive yourself (no, the car rental people do not pay me to say that). It's at least a 2-hour drive to the ruins, but you can come back at your own pace, see the Cenote at Dzitnup, or chill out for dinner in Vallodolid. * Contoy: If you're into nature, you might like this bird sanctuary. Small boats leave from both Cancun and Isla Mujeres each morning, stop for some snorkling, fix lunch on the beach at Contoy while you roam the trail, climb the observation tower etc. * Puerto Morelos: Small town about 15 minutes south of Cancun. Great casual atmosphere. Have fun! Mark www.tiogringo.com |
I can't agree enough with the above post. Rent your own car. It's definitely more cost effective in addition to having more freedom than joining a tour. My husband and I have been to Cancun a few times and we have always rented our own car. We make the reservations before we leave the US so that we get the best rates (approx. $25 per day for the most economical car with AC). The roads are actually quite easy to navigate since there is hardly anyone on the highways. There really is only one major highway to all the tourist sites.
