Spring Break 2005
We are looking at possibly going to Cancun the first week of April 2005. We are traveling with two kids and want to avoid the college spring break scene. Is this a bad time to go with a family?
|
To me it is a bad time--I would avoid Cancun at that time of year. But, its a matter of personal tastes!
|
I agree with Robert
Mexican tourism avoids those dates because of all that's going on in Cancun, there?s a lot of mischievous and drunken behavior. |
I am not familiar specifically with Cancun, but know from PV that you can mitigate the chances by the type of hotel or resort you choose.
Drunken college kids are most likely to stay at inexpensive all-inclusive party-atmosphere resorts. Research the family-oriented or simply a bit higher class/priced hotels. Some places even have rules again the spring breakers. |
Spring break is not a well definite week or two but rather sprawls all over March. It is basically over by the time April hits, however, so for the dates I don't know how many youth you're going to encounter anywhere at that time.

What about a place like Royal Caribbean (timeshare ppty)in Cancun around mid March? Wld that be away from the "college party scene"???
|
Wow, yes. Avoid this place when college kids get there.

As an owner at one of the Royals, I'm sure the Royal Caribbean would be fine, but venturing out into Cancun itself (and the airport/plane ride) would not. The beauty of Cancun is the 6 peso public bus transportation and the numerous restaurants and shopping the transportation would access. Too many rowdy and drunk college kids in town, staying elsewhere but still around, would certainly damper your vacation experience and would not make a good impression on your children. Mid March certainly is in the height of spring-break time. The Royals have policies against hosting spring breakers but I don't think it would be good to limit yourself to just your resort. I would plan a trip a different time, my opinion.

I think most responders here are missing an important point and continue to miss it despite my previous post. So let me try again, csg62: don't worry -- the spring breakers, or at least 95% of them, will be gone from Cancun already during the first week of April.

I am responding to wow who said that he/she would be interested in going to the Royal Caribbean in Mid-March.

Agree with Dee's post. Royal Carribean is a great place and your are somewhat insulated there--but the rest of the area is another story!
