Spanish language school in Mexico close to "large" city able to fly in to?

I'm thinking about going to Mexico to attend a Spanish immersion school and dont' want to spend hours traveling from the airport to the school. I saw a similar thread some time back but can't find it now. Any ideas?

You can fly to Mexico City then its one hour to Cuernavaca which is full of language schools. Or you can bus to Puebla which is close by, or you can fly into Oaxaca or, of course, if you want to be in Mexico City there are lots of schools there. Likewise most of the beach resortsyou can fly to have schools now. In other words, lots of opportunities.

Oaxaca was my first choice, but I should have mentioned that I will be flying America West. They don't fly into Oaxaca. I looked into Cuernavaca already. One web site said the bus ride was 1 3/4 hours. America West flies to Acapulco, Los Cabos, Cancun, Guadalajara, Hermesilla, Ixtapa, Manzanillo, Mazatlan, Monterrey, and, or course, Mexico City. Any suggestions for specific schools in any of these cities?

Cuernavaca is the only place on your list I have been to school. I went to the "Cuernavaca language school" and would give it a B compared to an A for the langauge schools I have been to in Oaxaca and Saltillo. I take it, as you flying America West, you don't want to book the additional 45 minute flight to Oaxaca on Mexicana or Aeromexico? I thnk its a good choice for langauge study.

A friend of mine runs a great school in Playa Del Carmen, 45 minutes from Cancun Airport and a beautiful setting. Check it out at:

I would also give the nod to Cuernavaca.

Good luck!

For those of you who have been to Oaxacan language schools -- which did you attend? Would you recommend for a three week session? Why or why not? I plan to go the end of April for three weeks.
Any other feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have been to Becari in Oaxaca many times the last few years. I have heard other schools in Oaxaca are quite good, but Becari is the one I know. I originally went there because it was cheaper that the others. It still is cheaper then some. I have never had a class with more than four people in it, and generally the instruction has been quite good. The more time availible the better, but I beleive you could learn quite a bit in three weeks. To give you an idea what you might be able to learn- I met a guy from Scotland at Becari last summer. He had never had Spanish before and was in his 6th week. He had learned all the tenses and could function quite well in Spanish. More than anything he needed to pick up some more vocabulary. I certainly think Oaxaca City is a great place to visit and go to langauge school. One thing- last year was super hot in April. Sometimes it doesn't start to cool off until the rain hits in June. To be safe you might want to bring clothes for a temperture rage as wide as 50-90 depending on the weather this year.
