Southern Winds v. Aerolineas Argentinas
Does anybody have any updated info on Southern Winds or any recent experiences with them? We are using American Airline award ticket for our trip from NY to Buenos Aires and are able to have the flights from BA to Iguazu on Southern Winds included for the same amount of miles, but I'm nervous after hearing about delays and strikes with Southern Winds and was wondering if I should pay and get a ticket on Aerolineas and forget about the free Southern Winds flight. Is Aerolineas worth paying for? Will be leaving in about three weeks

LAn Chile is going to take over their operations

Is that definite or just a rumor? And when is it supposed to happen? In any event I'm still wondering how reliable they are at present.

I'm headed to BA in two days and was in a similar situation. I was about to book a SW flight from BA to Mendoza and was informed of their shaky future. I ended up booking with Cintia at Wow Argentina for Aerolineas. The cost on Aero. ended up being 200usd. SA was 189usd (converted from Euros) on the web site and like 240usd using SW call center in Miami. Good luck

The news last night said that LAN had bought the Argentine airline LAFSA, which folded recently, and not Southern Winds, and would be renaming it LAN Argentina when everything gets worked out. I was surprised because I thought the SW deal was a sure thing.

Lafsa were operating southern Winds, so it is one and the same. It appears Southern Winds had been using LAfsa employees. It's all involved , but at the end of the day Lan Chile will be taking the operations over

All I can say is that I saw a Southern Winds flight leaving BA for Mendoza and the people going down the ramp got onto a plane marked. Aerolineas Airlines. I mentioned the Southern Winds thing to several people in Argentina, but no one had a sure reply.
