solo traveller seeks low key, casual beach vacay!

I'm looking to just get away for 4-5 nights... I am mostly concerned with weather and beach - just want to wake up, throw on swimsuit, grab a book & sunscreen and hang out at the beach for hours.... I don't care about food or cuisine - (I almost prefer non-AI for that particular reason... I drink occasionally but unlimited booze is not what I'm looking for on this trip). I don't need a lot of bells & whistles in my room, but I would like the option of a massage/spa. I don't want to be "confined" to the resort either.

I will be travelling alone, from NYC and am not really looking to send over an exorbitant amount of money since I'll probably do a nicer vacation this summer, this is just to get away from the city, get a tan & chill out for a few days.

Any recommendations would be helpful, thanks!

I don't know how it prices from NYC, since it's quite a distance, but Puerto Vallarta has everything you describe. Lots of great hotels on the "south side" of town (Zona Romantia), great beach, a few independent massage places and low key spas, lots of hotel options in the under $100 range.

PV is a good start.
There are surrounding areas that arent as busy that may attract you too.

Since you're coming from back East, maybe the Caribbean side would be easier? Either Isla Mujeres or Playa del Carmen?
