Snorkeling & Other Activities Near Victoria House, Amgergris Caye

I'll be spending the last four days and nights of my upcoming vacation at Victoria House in Belize. Any specific recommendations for snorkeling near the shore? Also, any ideas for other leisurely activities in that area? Thanks in advance!

The good snorkeling is out at the reef. Short boat trip. Some of the hotels have created small artificial reefs off the ends of their dock.

Rent some bikes and head to the north end of the island. Or, rent a golf cart and do the same (assuming it hasn't been raining much).

Stroll the beach into town, it's only a couple miles, lots of beach bars to stop at on the way.

Take a day trip to Caye Caulker. Either take the water taxi, or combine it with a snorkel trip.

There are now small power boat tours of the mangroves that leave from town. They look like fun.

There's also kite boarding, sailing, wind surfing.

Or my personal favorite, just staring at the incredible water.

Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker have very, very shallow beaches and sea grass.

The best snorkeling from shore is in front of Ramon's. Its beach is deeper and there are a lot of fish at the end of its pier.

Do you have to stay at Ramon's to have access to the reefs referenced in your response? Thanks again.

No, you don't have to stay at Ramon's to swim off of their pier. Caribbean Villas also has a nice artificial reef off the end of their dock, it's only a 10-15 minute walk north from Victoria House.

how is Ramon's? It is rated pretty high on Trip Advisor, but there are no prices on their (Ramon's) website. I hope there's no if you have to ask, you can't afford it stuff going on :(

I don't know myself! But shillmac who posts here a lot just stayed there, she'll be back in a few days. Said she liked, it but maybe a tad overpriced. I'm sure she'll chime in when she's back on Tuesday, I believe. Jean she said it was such a great treat to meet you!

I'm not shillmac, but I have a current rate sheet for them. I inquired about our upcoming trip. Some examples for high season (until April 15) are:

Gardenview: $180
Seaside: $195
Beachfron Mini-Suite: $255
Honeymoon: $285

We actually stayed there on our first trip to Ambergris Caye in 2002. It was good for a first trip, but probably a bit overpriced. The gounds are very nice, and the staff was very good.

Hope this helps!
