SJO to Peace Lodge

In 10 days I will be driving from the airport to the Peace Lodge. Their website lists two routes (one through Alajuela, and one through Heredia). Do you guys recommend one or the other?

Thanks in advance.

From the airport, I think I'd prefer to travel through Heredia. Do you have a good map?

We went the Alajuela route and found it to be pretty easy. Only about an hour drive. Enjoy!

We also went through Alajuela.

The rental agency gave us excellent directions and pointed them out to us on our map. Be sure you understand and write down the directions through Alajuela - which to me seems like a city of one way streets.

We had no problems and found the route well marked, also Poas Volcano signs are along the way, which helped.

Haven't taken the other route.

As you can see, either route will work for you just fine. We've been the Alajuela route as well--I would just prefer to drive through Heredia than Alajuela--seems easier to me. One way streets are the norm in most of the larger Costa Rican towns. Heredia is just a little smaller than Alajuela, and that appeals to me more when driving. It isn't a long distance either way and is well marked. Take your pick! Only 9 days for you! How long will you be there? Have a great time!

Slinky-dawg,
I will be taking the same exact trip as you at the end of July. (Same hotels- same order- 9 days!) Please write a trip review and let me know of any must-sees and exciting things you learn on your trip. Also, please let me know how the driving is from Peace Lodge to Lost Iguana. Thanks.
