situation in Tulum

I am worried about the situation in Tulum re Wilma. Does anyone have information about the level of destruction there? I have friends there but can not contact them. In addition I expect to be there on the 30th!

The road has been washed out at Zamas in Tulum - happens often when there is a storm such as Wilma.

You can see how sensitive the road is from this aerial:

It will probably be put back together quickly, but not sure how quickly.

I'm sure most people staying along the beach were evacuated into town. Do you know what hotel they were staying at?

Thank you for the feedback. My friend lives there--not in a hotel. She lives beyond Anna & Jose. I was planning to stay at Arrecife but not sure of the situation there.

Not sure about Arrecife. I'll bet if there was a large surge, the beachfront cabanas might have have washed out since the are simply stick and thatch structures. But the building is set back a bit, so it may be okay. I'm just speculating; but surely the road is washed out.

There may be other ways to reach that area. Such as boats that normally do tours of Sian Kaan that leave from behind the ruins of Muyil.

Hmmmm...that is what I was thinking. Zamas must have been hard hit too. I guess I'll try calling in a day or two. Thanks again.

I read a report on locogringo about Zamas. I think it said it will open next week after they clean up.

It's just that darn road...it seems like it doesn't take too much to wash it out. I heard it washed out last year in September (was it Hurricane Ivan?) and the storm didn't exactly hit Mexico. That's when I heard about the boat option.

I hope that's right...I'm getting all these hurricanes mixed up!!!
