Side trips while in Cabo
Would love some tips re good side trips while in Cabo San Lucas (like visits to Todos Santos(sp?) and other towns.....<BR>Thank you.

Read on another website that it was a waste of time to go to Todos Santos. Does anyone have any opinions re this? Also, how safe is it to drive a rental car to these areas ("safe" as in getting stopped by police or robbers...) ?

One must be a nature lover or interested in the local art to enjoy "good" side trips. Todos Santos is for the local art, the East Cape area is for the nature part. Santiago, 30 minute drive north of the Airport, has a zoo, further inland from Santiago is a hot-spring (Agua Caliente). La Paz was interesting in its own way, but that is a long day. So choose what interests you. Worth is relative.

Thanks for your reply edfran. Do you have any suggestions re transportation to these areas? Bus or rental car? We've used the buses around Cabo and San Jose, but never ventured out past that. Thanks, eb

You will need to rent a car. Gas will be around $20 for the trip. If you want to avoid the area around San Jose, take the new toll road that goes between the airport and the hotel area. Costs 25 pesos.

I was in Los Barilles last February - about an hour north east of Cabo. We didn't rent a car, but many of the people at our hotel did with no problems. I wouldn't hesitate to rent a car. The roads are very safe and drivers are very curtious. One note of caution: We were with a windsurf camp (Vela) and our host did drive us around one day to visit beaches and he was adament about not driving at night.
