Help! Riviera Maya hotel choice-today

Have a first class round trip ticket to Cancun on Friday for a week..quick calm relaxing and warm get away for hubby and me.
Beach and accommodations(not a room with just a bed) important..Though the "Mayakobas" are intriguing. A bit of entertainment good, but we are not late nighters. Has been some time since we have been in the area. An AI for this trip, I think
I have narrowed my search to 3 places..and yes, I need to make rezzys today.
The Beloved..but wonder how many children will be there..and we have them..love them..just not this trip
Secrets Maroma..ocean view room..but could be a long way from the ocean..
Excellence Playa Mujeres..ocean front room..
Budget for the week..under 5500.
Tried to do my due diligence..but just confused..
Any help, suggestions, or input greatly appreciated.
Thanks..and greatful to head to a warm spot!

Both hotels get great reviews. Secrets is closer to 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen and most of the off site excursions/activities if that matters to you. I don't think you can go wrong with either though.

Not a fan of EPM as their beach is not very good.
Secrets Maroma has a great beach. I would look into the Iberostar Paraiso Grand and Royal Hideaway Playacar.

Returned from a great week at Secrets Maroma...thank you schmerl..
accomoodations fine, food varied, staff great, most attentive. beach was beautiful..
unfortunately we encountered a large convention that took over the main pool and swim up bar..just a bit annoying at a resort like this..did not plan on adult spring break..but staff did a good job to cover...
look forward to another trip
