Sheraton or Westin in Cancun?

I am getting the same price on Expedia. Which one is better?

Also, does anyone know which Car rental agency is at both the hotels? I think I might need to rent a car for a few days.

Thanks
-WantSun!

I think they are both very good. The main difference is the location. The Westin is the first hotel on the main strip(closest to the airport) so it is quite far away from many of the malls, discos, restaurants, etc. The advantage is that you have the beach a little bit more for yourself.

The Sheraton is just in front of a very nice open air mall, closer to a bunch of restaurants, etc. Obviously you also have more people on the beach as it is surrounded by other hotels.

In terms of rooms, pool, etc. I would give the Westin a small advantage. It has a very characteristic architecture (done by a famous Mexican) and it is less old than the Sheraton.

Anyway, I have stayed in both and I think the advantage of just getting out of the hotel and having things close by wins. I prefer the Sheraton.

Good luck,

McH

I would not recommend the Westin. As for the hotel itself; ie. rooms, pools, restaurants. It was nice. Not a big beach and couldn't swim in the water the whole time we were there. The conceige tried to sell timeshares, tours we did not want. We have stayed in many Westin hotels and I will never stay in this one again. I would go for the hilton myself. Sorry can't remember the rental car name.

Another vote for the Sheraton. I have not heard good things aobut the Westin's beach since the erosion problem and it's location is a bit far from all the action.

Jenn
