September Honeymoon in Costa Rica

I really need some help in planning my honeymoon in Costa Rica....

I have been doing a lot of research into which regions my fiance and I should visit for our honeymoon. We have booked our flights already and are going to be visiting for 10 days...the last week of Sept. thru the first week of Oct. Has anyone visited during this time?

I know that it is the green season and I have tried to plan our trip accordingly. We have booked our honeymoon through a travel agent that is very flexible, we can change where we visit at any time up to 30 days of our trip. We are also going to be transported everywhere by this company.

My fiance and I are pretty adventurous and we both chose to go to Costa Rica for an experience that we will talk about for years.

Right now our trip is as follows:
We are staying near Tambor for the first 5 nights at Tango Mar. Then we will go to Arenal to Stay at the Lost Iguana for 3 nights and our last 2 nights are at the Peace Lodge near the San Jose airport.

Has anyone been to any of these areas this time of year?

Originally we were going to go to the Carribean coast for the first leg of the trip, to Limon, and stay at the Almonds and Corals in one of their suites but, we decided not to because it was cheaper to stay on the Pacific coast. Now, I am thinking maybe we should just bag Arenal because that seems to be the wettest region during that time and go to Limon instead.

Can anyone shed some light on my dilema???

Not sure about the rain, because it might be a factor, but I would say, stay with Arenal and skip Limon. I don't know why anyone would want to go there. Puerto Viejo, Cahuita, Manzanillo, yes, Limon, no way. It is a busy city that has to much crime and really isn't anything like the rest of CR. There is so much to do and see in Arenal area, even if it is raining, the thermal pools, spas are incredible. Hope this helps a little and congrats.

It is a good time of year for Puerto Viejo, Cahuita, and Manzanillo because rain is generally a bit less during those months over there.

I would do that rather than Tambor.

Will I never get it all together? LOL!

Sept. and Oct. is a GREAT time to visit Tortuguero also because of the turtles nesting and babies hatching and making their dash for the sea.

Do Peace Lodge, maybe Arenal if time, then get over to the east coast for Tortuguero and Puerto Viejo!

Agree that Puerto Viejo would be a good choice as it's into the drier season there. It's also a very beautiful area and lots of things to do for the adventurous. I suggest looking into Cariblue for a great location and amenities for a honeymoon.

Molly, check out www.costa-rica-guide.com for rainfall in certain areas by month; it will give you an idea of what to expect, although it's unpredictable. I would anticipate that you're going to be dealing with some rain. We loved Lost Iguana and Peace Lodge both, and thought they were romantic spots.

Thanks for all your great suggestions. I have decided to take Tambor off our itinerary. Right now, I am in the process of changing our trip to go to Punta Uva instead. We found this really great place called the Tree House Lodge...has anyone been?

Also, we are planning on driving, or instead being driven, from Punta Uva to Arenal on the second leg of the trip. Is this an increadibly long drive? I have been told it's around 6 hours which neither of us mind because it is our first time to Costa Rica and we would really like to see the country. Has anyone done this drive...especially in the green season?

I've taken that route with Interbus twice and it's a lovely drive. Beautiful scenery. I haven't stayed at Tree House Lodge and I'm not sure how far it is from PV. I like to stay within walking distance of town.
