sending a letter to mexico

I don't want to sound like I truly don't know anything but if I want to send a simple letter to Mexico, what stamps do I use? Do i need an international stamp....can I just put a couple of regular U.S. stamps on it & write "par avion"

You don't want to send any kind of letter or other item through the regular mail system to Mexico if you really need or want it to arrive. Trust me. You need to use email, fax or (although expensive) a paid courier. Mexpost is entirely unreliable.

I've used Fed Ex (for example) if you need to send a money order for an apartment or hotel rental.

If it is simply correspondence & the timing does not matter, use U.S. stamps & find international postage rates at the USPS website.

Hmmm....what I'm sending is a check to a language school in San Miguel...think I should go for Fed-Ex....what I don't want to have happen is that they never receive it (though I've already enrolled via online but they need a check for deposit). whaddya think?

Just go to the post office, tell them the destination and get a stamp. Put the postal code before Mexico. That should be the last thing in the address. I have had bad luck mailing packages, about half disappear. Letters generally arrive at their destination in Mexico just fine.

Whoa- I take what I said back, I missed the part about the check. Just plain letters to friends, etc. are fine via Mexican post. Don't send a check. Fed ex-has worked well for me in similar situations.

G222,
You can send it to my Border Crossings address (they pick up in Laredo, TX daily) and I'll deliver it to the school.
I think you have my e-mail addy.

My Experience with Fed Ex to Mexico is not good. Much better is DHL. very expensive. but quick & reliable. About 10USD to Mexico.

Use US Post Office Express Mail, should get there within 5 days.

If it's urgent, use Fedex, DHL, Redpack or any of the other messenger services

I have used Fedex and DHL - both are reliable to SMdA - 2 days is about average, but the cost is about $24. USD and I have a discounted account with Fedex via USAA.
