We were there last month (in Ambergris). Yes, there is definitely some seaweed at the waters edge, but I certainly wouldn't describe it as "terrible" or change my trip (especially since it is a problem throughout most of the Caribbean right now as the person above said). If you are traveling with a young child who will just want to be at the waters edge, that could be a problem, but otherwise I would think not. We had the best week of our lives - the snorkeling a few feet off the beach was spectacular (and I've heard the sargassum helped this - we saw a manatee very close in to shore and so many turtles, rays, nurse sharks). The beach was still absolutely gorgeous, and the water amazing, but there was that border of seaweed every day. We just walked right through it/over it into the amazing blue waters. The scuba diving and fishing were amazing. I'll take you trip if you don't want it ;)
