Muchas gracias, Scarlett. Good stuff, thanks for the link.

Hi Scarlett, I've enjoyed your Europe posts and now we'll be in Buenos Aires in October also.
I printed out your Travel & City guide. Lots of good tips there. Who knows? Maybe we'll be sitting across from one another in one of those restaurants, drinking a glass of Malbec and watching a tango. One month to go for us. Can't wait. |
Another good read:
http://tinyurl.com/es944 Thank you, granny! It is exciting, isn't it? I picture us at that cafe too ((D)) Salud! |
I am waiting to see if our hotel can get tickets for us to one of the last performances at the Teatro Colon, which closes for a 2 year renovation.
The last shows are Oct 29 and 31..if anyone else is interested in going . |
This snippet alone made your link a worthwhile read:
"We stop in the first salon we pass. A wash, cut, highlights and blow-dry cost about $13 each. Try doing that in Paris, which I've come to think of as the Buenos Aires of Europe' I have often described Buenos Aires as Paris without having to put up with Parisians...but I like this description more than mine....The Buenos Aires of Europe..lol... |
Hi Scarlett,
As a fellow Europe lover who ventured into Argentina last year I can tell you that you will love it. The shopping is wonderful - save room for purses and shoes because the quality of leather is very high with equally high style quality. I posted a note on my trip last year so you might want to search my screen name. Plus, the level of service in the shops and restaurants is also very high. And I second the recommendation for Fredo for ice-cream. Don't miss dulce de leche! Enjoy. I'm trying Chile this year. |
Thanks all,
It's always hard to leave our pueblo magico, but we are really looking foward to 3 weeks in AR and CL. M (SMdA, Gto.) |
I am going to Patagonia and Buenos Aires Oct. 19-Nov. 9th. During October I will only be in BA overnight on the 20th before an early flight to Ushauaia. Would love to go to Teatro Colon, but won't be back in BA unitl Nov. 2. What have you found out about performances. Any chance of one on the 20th?
I am enjoying all the information about BA. Anyone have any hints about Patagonia? I'm scheduled for 4 days on a boat, off at Punta Arenas, on to Torres del Paine and El Calafate. Would love to know what type of clothing I will need. I know it is Spring, but that probably won't mean much in Patagonia. HELP! |
From the Colon's website:

Gracias, avrooster.

Hi Scarlett,
We would be interested in going to the Teatro Colon with you. We arrive in B.A. Oct 13, but we'll be touring until Oct 26. We could go Oct 27, 28, 29 or 30. Would probably go for the best seats available, perhaps a balcony? I understand the seats are quite reasonable. How do we get them? Could you email me at [email protected] if you would like company and find any information. I read where a tour of the theater is a must, but go before 2p.m It's more exciting when the actors and people are there. We saw a ballet at the Budapest Opera House and it was a wonderful experience. |
What about going to a soccer game? I really would like to, but I have read several sources that say it is a bit dangerous, and being a woman alone, should I go to the extra expense of hiring one of the companies that escort you? Sometimes these danger reports get blown out of proportion, and I already know not to sit in the general admission area. Any opinions?

Glad to hear you are going to BsAs next month Scarlett. You won't be disappointed.
CMCFong told me she sent you a copy of my file. I hope it was of help to you. Some of the things you've asked about are included there. I think you would enjoy shopping at Patio Bullrich. The one we went to in Recoleta was beautifully decorated for Christmas when we were there. Nice shops, stylish clothes in the windows, good quality. I wanted a pair of sandals I saw in one of the shop windows, but sadly they didn't have my size. |
Scarlett, I just remembered something else. There are these cookies/chocolates by a company called Havana. They are sold in shops and kiosks in the mall. At first I didn't approach them cause I thought they were cigars (!) but then someone brought in a box and I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. On the way home, at the airport, I saw our american pilots buying boxes and boxes of them. You have to try them.

Hi Scarlett,
SharonG is referring to something called alfajores. They are 2 cookies filled with dulce de leche and then covered with chocolate. http://www.havanna.com.ar/en-home.html Enjoy! :) raquel |
We plan the "other Buenos Aires tour" on the 19th and a Polo Match afternoon with avr, etc., but would be interested in company @ theater, tango or dinner 20-24 Oct.
M (y mi novia Louisa :) |
Hola~
We have been at the Coast, enjoying the wind and scenery of the PNW. Now back to Buenos Aires!! Thank you all for your replies, Giovanna, I have your file, I have to read it again, my mind is a sieve, I no longer remember anything but my dogs name and where I can find Chocolate..so do forgive me for repeating questions here that have been answered elsewhere :D Thank you for the shopping info, making lists, making lists!! The ArtSuites can get tickets for the Colon on the 29th or 31st..They are $100 each including "transfers"...? We will follow avroosters advice and will contact Carolina tomorrow about the tickets. I have no idea which night we are going .. My husband wants to see a race, I want to see a Polo game, it will all be wonderful, I have no doubt! dr dawggy, that phrase grabbed me too! and my husband nodded when I told him about the beauty salon price, seems it must have appealed to him too lol. Sharon, thank you, my dear enabler of Chocolate Addiction..raquel, they do look tasty, thank you :) Thanks to all, Ciao~ |
I was just in BA but it was amazing. I also ate at Cluny, which was delicious. I would also recommend Dominga, in Palermo Hollywood, and Le Sud in the Sofitel Hotel. The chef is famous and has a Michelin star.
What I found in BA is that the food is excellent and of the best quality, and the prices can't be beat. I live in NYC and any dinner here costs a small fortune, but I ate at these restaurants for a grand total of $30 (just me) and that included an appetizer, main dish (usually a meat like lamb or fish), and a glass of wine and tip. You gotta live it up at these prices! |
Scarlett:
About your "The ArtSuites can get tickets for the Colon on the 29th or 31st..They are $100 each including "transfers"...? and your "My husband wants to see a race, I want to see a Polo game" I'll see how I can help. You mean horse racing, I guess? About the cost of restaurants, I dine out almost every day with my wife, in pretty good places, for about 20 dollars for BOTH of us. However, I'm afraid you won't find any tourists in those places. LOL!!! |
