Sayulita jellyfish?

When I was in Sayulita in late June, I was playing in the surf and got stung by a jellyfish. I ended up having to go to the local clinic to get a cortisone shot. The doctor told me that jellyfish were common in the ocean there, but that they only stung people with light skin. Does anybody have any information on the jellyfish in the area? Are they really that common? Thanks.
