Sarapiqui Float Trip vs. Cano Negro
This forum has been so helpful in planning. Which tour would be more interesting, the Sarapiqui float or Cano Negro? Or would they be pretty similiar? We are mostly looking to view wildlife and take pictures. We are traveling in February and have two full days in the central valley and then move to arenal for two full days.

I've done the Sarapiqui float trip, but not Cano Negro. From my experience and what I understand about Cano Negro, you'd probably enjoy it more. The Sarapiqui cruise lasts for about an hour as opposed to several hours of Cano Negro. The only wildlife we saw was a couple of caimans, 2-3 very interesting birds, and some iguanas. I think you'll see more at Cano Negro.

Cano Negro is a wonderful trip! We saw as much wildlife, particularly birds, in a few hours than in on our two-day Tortuguero trip {still HIGHLY recommended!}. And this was on a rainy day.

I did the Cano Negro trip a few weeks ago and thought it was great - but the company I was doing it with (I was doing a site inspection of their operation), left the hotel a little earlier than usual to get to the river first - we were the first boat up the river and I think we saw more than the boats behind us...
Saw a wide variety of both birds and animals - had a very good guide who saw things we had to really strain to see. Haven't done Sarapiqui so can't compare. Cheers, Andrew |
I think I'm sold on the Cano Negro tour as it sounds like we'll see alot more. Thanks for the suggestions!
