Sao Paulo to Ilhabela
 

Looking for information on traveling from Guarulhos airport to Ilhabela<BR><BR>Also looking for accomodation information in Ilhabela.<BR><BR>Traveling in late March.

I am not aware of any public transportation to Ilhabela. You will probably want to rent a car and drive it, about a 3 hour trip involving a quick ferry at the end. You can take a major highway right from the airport to Sao Sebastiao and then the ferry. We stayed at the Maison Joly over our honeymoon which is a very charming small hotel for couples with about 12 rooms, each uniquely decorated, some have hot tub, jacuzzi, one has a private pool, all have great views as the hotel is located in the Vila, up on a hill. It serves great food and is known for its gourmet breakfast. You will need a car on Ilhabela, anyway, to get around and see the island. You will probably want to arrange some sort of boating tour also since that is the big thing on Ilhabela. It has nice restaurants, little town, the only thing I felt was a waste was crossing over to the Atlantic side of the island (Castellanos) which is just teeming with mosquitos! I mean you cannot sit still on the beach. Plus it is only reached after a 45 minute, unpleasant totally bumpy drive through the woods. Maison Joly has a website so you can check it out. Have fun!

<BR>If you don't drive a stick, take &quot;The Airport Bus&quot; into town. There is probably one to the Jabaquara bus station. Then a 3.5 hr ride to Ilhabela.<BR>

There are lots of small charming hotels (pousadas) in Ilhabela, less expensive than Maison Jolly. Have a look at www.ilhabela.com.br for more information. Board a bus from S&atilde;o Paulo to Ilhabela. Ilhabela is a big island facing S&atilde;o Sebasti&atilde;o (a city by the sea). Board the ferry from S&atilde;o Sebasti&atilde;o to Ilhabela. The mosquitos Liz referred to are called &quot;borrachudos&quot;. Yes, they are a nuisance. On the other hand, &quot;borrachudos&quot; don't survive on polluted waters, so their presence and great numbers are a clear indication the region is environmentally clean and in a pristine state. So long life to Ilhabela's &quot;borrachudos&quot; ! Use mosquito repellent spray to keep them away.

Definitely go to Maison Joly.It's very charming and not so expensive.

We stayed in a nice little pousada called Porto Pacuiba, rooms vary, ask for one with a view.
After Carnaval it is low season and prices are very low.
Do not miss to have lunch by the beach at Viana;s
great food.
It looks like nothing much from outside but the food is excellent.Sea food and delicious mango rissotto.
