Santiago, Chile
I apologize in advance for not doing more research myself but I'm in a time crunch. I've signed up for a photography workshop in the Falklands in Feb 09. We'll be flying into Santiago, Chile and from there flying to Mount Pleasant (ouch on that airfare!).
The photography portion is 1/30/09 to 2/15/09. I've never been in that part of the world before so I'm thinking I need to add on a couple of days before and do some sightseeing. I'm thinking leaving the US the 26th so that would leave 3 full days (27-29th) and I'll meet up with the group on the 30th. I need to commit to (or lose) my FF tickets reservations by tomorrow (Saturday night). Can someone give me an idea of what there is to do in Santiago? I just looked and I can also get a FF ticket to Buenos Aires and then fly to Santiago on the 30th if Buenos Aires would be a better choice. I would need sightseeing suggestions for there if that's the way I should do it. I'm open to suggestions (even different cities) and appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks! Hi Cindy - we really enjoyed Santiago - were there at a similar time 2 years ago. But I would be remiss not to suggest you see if you could go to Easter Island for a few days before your trip - flight is daily from Santiago and it's a wonderful destination for a photographer (or anyone for that matter)
Here's a link to our blog - Santiago pics (we mainly ate while we were there) and Easter Island. http://lizandrichardsa.typepad.com/l..._south_/chile/ Navigate on the left for Easter Island portion |
Liz, you're great! Easter Island it is. And I love your blog. I quickly glanced through the Easter Island pages but have bookmarked it to read more. Thanks for helping me.

Cindy - I don't think you'll regret it - Easter Island is a wonderful destination..............

If you only have 3 days then easter Island is not a rational option. it would be much better to spend the time in Santiago itself. personally, I doubt if few cities are as photogenic as Santiago. So relax and enjoy.

toid - I was assuming she could add a day or so - we spent 3 nights in Easter Island and that was a good amount of time. If you land in Santiago around 6am (which our flight from Toronto did) you could keep going to EI on LAN (assuming the flight schedules are the same as they were for us)

I'm not sure if I can work Easter Island in. I'm trying to use FF miles for my ticket to Santiago and the only dates available gets me there when Lan does not fly to E.I. I haven't booked yet but I doubt if I can work it out.
