Sansa Luggage Requirements
 

Hi, guys - I told CRlover that I would post the Sansa luggage requirements they sent to me. Thought it might help other people in the planning stages too.

Carry-on baggage:
You are entitled to one piece of carry-on baggage:
Maximum weight 5 lbs., Maximum size 20 linear inches (combined length+height+width)

In addition, you are permitted to carry with you in the cabin the following items (unknown restrictions apply):
a purse
umbrella or walking stick
reading material for the flight
infant food for consumption in flight
an overcoat, wrap, or blanket
small camera, binoculars
laptop computer
(You may be required to check-in your carry-on bag if space is limited.)

Checked baggage free allowance:
1 piece maximum weight of 22 lbs.
maximum size of 45 linear inches (combined length + width + height).

Whoa!! I thought Sanza had a 25 lb. limit not 22lbs. We leave Tuesday and I have been packing and repacking my "test" bag to get under the 25 lb. limit. Please don't tell me its 22 lbs. Only our flight to the Osa is with Sansa, the other flights are with Nature Air so we'll have a 30 lb. limit on our later flights. I plan on using the extra weight limit for in country purchases.

The info. they sent me says 22, but they do allow you 5 pounds of carryon. They never weighed our carryon stuff. I brought a purse, camera, and a small bag with books and magazines on board, and it was okay. I think their flexibility depends upon how full the flight is.

Nature Air weighed each of us with our checked bag. I wish I had known, I could have gotten away with more in my bag, since I weighed a good 100 lbs less than each of the guys on our trip. They never weighed our carry on. But I had to keep it on my lap the entire flight (no real room under the seat), so keep that in mind.

Don't know if Sansa weighs you in the same way, but if so, you might be in luck and be able to sneak in a few extra items.

Also, they didn't weigh us on the way back from Puerto Jimenez. Guess they didn't think there was a reason to worry since there's so little to buy.

Not that they have anyplace for a scale. Can't see them putting one up against the REmax signs on the cemetery wall.

Sansa never weighed us at all, but they did weigh our bags in both San Jose and Puerto Jimenez. They asked us our weight, but didn't make us get on the scale.

hills, LOL - about the cemetery! Is that not the funkiest "airport" you've ever seen?

I was convinced the plane was going to kill that dog on the return flight.

One of the dorks on our flight (I must admit he was in our group, but I swear it was the first time I met him) decided to be "helpful" and open the door to the plane once we pulled up to the cemetery. OMG, the pilot went off the deep end screaming and yelling that the CR FAA was going to fine him. FAA??? What FAA??? We just landed on a gravel strip overrun with dogs and pulled up next to a cemetery. Who is going to report us??? We were convinced that he was going to be banned from Nature Air and would have to hitch back to San Jose.

I also loved the Nature Air co-pilot with the clipboard checking passengers in.

Pilot: "Nombre?"

Me: "Hills."

Pilot: "Okay."

And on you went.

agswimmer I think you'll be fine, my bag has always weighed between 25-30 pounds and I often have a small backpack too and never had any problems.

I love the Sansa lady at PJ with the purple hair and the (often) 12 year old bag porters, lol.

I like the kids riding their bikes on the "runway!"

Tully,I'm so glad to hear that. The reason I've been so paranoid about the 25 lb weight limit is because of the posts that say if you're over the limit your luggage doesn't get on same plane as you. I would gladly pay the $1 per pound extra not to have the headache of worrying about our luggage weight. (I may have to tell my 14 yr old daughter her new polka dot weekender weighs too much.:) ) But I don't want to arrive in Puerto Jimenez without our luggage.

agswimmer, we had a girl in front of us in line at Sansa; her bag weighed only 19 pounds, and they refused to put it on the plane. It was entirely arbitrary, and she raised such a protest that they eventually put the bag on for her. She had worked so hard to stay under the weight limit, and their refusal to put it on the plane infuriated her. So I guess it pays to protest.
