Sorry, this is my first time to post and I think I accidentally posted the first time to the general group.

We have a chance to spend a week in either San Martin de los Andes at Rincon de los Andes or Villa la Angostura at Bahia Manzano. Can anybody recommend one over the other either because of the location or the hotel? Is one more active or secluded than the other? Which has more activities to do? a larger town? They both sound beautiful from what I've read on the Internet and on this board. Thanks so much!

Argentine people like Villa la Angostura more than San Martin. For all excursion you make, it is much nearer to stay in V.A than in San Martin de los Andes.

i can sugest staying in Bariloche, is the capital of the lake region. And if you are spending 1 week, you can make a full day excursion to visit San Martin by the 7 lakes road, this excursion make a stop in villa la angostura too. And from Bariloche you can make all the excursion, or you can stay a couple of days in villa la angostura and the rest in Bariloche, i thunk is the best option!

It is matter of taste. The area of Villa La Angostura is much more unspoiled than Bariloche, which is an ugly town. I would certainly vote for Angostura.

would not say Bariloche is an ugly town. On the contrary, it is a nice city that has everything. Sometimes too many young people on the graduation trip make it a bit noisy.

Villa la Angostura is a favourite for locals who find it an unspoilt area to relax. Bahia Manzano is a huge RCI resort in Villa la Angostura. From there, you can easily make it to San Martin de los Andes for a day visit if you rent a car and you will also be very near Bariloche and have easy access to the cities in the south such as Bolson. Worth a visit.
