I need to find a hotel for one night in San Jose, the night before our flight home. We'll arrive mid afternoon so something convenient to restaurants and anything of interest!

Do you want in San Jose or nearer the airport? In San Jose I can certainly recommend Hotel Don Carlos as well as Grano de Oro. Nearer the airport, we like Orquideas Inn in Alajuela.

I too recommend Don Carlos in San Jose, their restaurant serves quite nice meals. I've also stayed at Holiday Inn Express near the airport, just for a night before departure. They have Denny's but looked really really bad
They actually charged wrong amount to my credit card, a rep called me twice to apologize. Thought it was a nice gesture.

We've stayed at Grano de Oro - neat historical hotel built in an old mansion; they have a great restaurant on site. Also love Xandari - beautiful property about 20 minutes from the airport with great views, trails, waterfalls, and a nice open air restaurant. A lot of people like Orquideas Inn.

I also really like Don Carlos. But my new find last year that I really love (for in the city) is Casa 69. Near the airport I like Orquideas Inn.

If you stay at Pura Vida Hotel and can get Nhi to make dinner for you, you won't need to go out.
