San Isidro

I am lucky enough to be able to go to Buenos Aires on business next month. Co-workers from the US who have been recommend hotels such as the Xlaridge, Hilton or Marriott. Those from BA have recommended the Hotel del Casco in San Isidro. The Americans tell me it is not the best place to stay for a woman traveling alone while the Argentinians highly recommend it.

Does anyone know anything about this hotel area? I have never been to South America so I am a bit nervous and confused. Thanks!

Typo! I meant the Claridge Hotel.

The hotel in San Isidro is newly opened, in September. It certainly appears nice! San Isidro is an upscale suburb of Buenos Aires, where the best private schools are located,etc.....The downside is that San Isidro is a long way from the central business district. A second consideration is that outside of gated communities the suburbs of Buenos Aires can be dangerous, lacking the police protection of the Capital Fedral....

The other hotels are in town....The Hilton is in PUerto Madero and is the newest of the hotels on your list....very modern, with the restaurants of Puerton Madero and the business district nearby.

The Marriott is located right on Plaza San Martin in Downtown Buenos Aires....again, close to everything, shopping and business...

The Claridge is my least favorite 5 star hotel in Buenos Aires. Friendly staff and a nice lobby/facade, but rooms are not as nice as the Hilton or the Marriott......

Check with your local friends about safety in San Isidro...I have done some checking with my friends who tell me San Isidro has a high incidence of express kidnappings because there are a lot of wealthy people who live in the area and police protection is not as good as in the city proper.

Thank you for your help. I guess I should stay in the city and take taxis to the office in San Isidro? I will be alone and safety is a bigger concern than money. If I stay at LoiSuites Recoletta, will I be safe walking around that area after business hours? I really don't know what to expect, I am well travelled, but I seem to be getting extra warnings about safety for Buenos Aires.

I would stay at the Hilton in Puerto Madero. The hotel is very nice and modern. There are many restaurants in the area. A taxi in BA is very inexpensive if you will be having to travel to San Isidro daily. Did you check rates at the Alvear Palace in Recoleta during your stay? I would most definitely stay there if you can write it off as a business trip expense. The hotel is fabulous and the best location in the city.

LoiSuites is just around the corner from the heart of the Recoleta restaurant/shop area. Pretty safe part of town.

Poncho is right....if you are on an expense account by all means stay at the Alvear. The Hilton is nice as well....
