S O S ! Are injections necessary for Peru?
I am leaving in less than 3 weeks for the Lima, Machu Piccho, Cuzco areas and just read in a respected guide book that I should have malaria, typhoid, tetanus-diptheria booster as well as Hepatitis A. I have no time, especially because the typhoid is 2 injections, 4 weeks apart with possible fever. Should I cancel my trip? I called the Peruvian Embassy; they said malaria is advised, not essential. I'm quite concerned. Can anyone guide me? Thank you!!! Sandy

We're leaving for the same area in 2 weeks. We went to the travel clinic that is within our healthcare facility and they do recommend hep a & b yellow fever, teatus/dip booster and typhoid. They also wanted us on malaria meds even though the area is iffy for malaria <BR>The us gov posts what they recommend. before you cancel though, I'd get to your clinic and see what they say. I'm not for putting all this medication in my body, but the risks and long term effects got me believing.

Oops, I almost forgot, they gave us medicine for altitude and also a medication incase we came down with dissentery.

You can't afford the luxury of NOT having the shots..especially for yellow fever...if it were me I wouldn't leave without the shots... BTW I did go in 1986 and did have shots..

If you don't mind, I am interested in what you decided to do, as I am looking into this type of trip myself.
