Royal Hideaway Trip Report

My husband and I returned Friday after spending 10 nights (June 8-June 18) at the Royal Hideaway in Playacar, Mexico.

We were in villa 26 (room 2615) on the ground floor. Luz was our concierge and she took care of everything from dinner reservations to spa reservations to tracking down movies during the storm for us during our stay. My husband ordered roses through Luz for me to be placed in our room on my birthday. She did this plus she placed a birthday banner in our room. She was wonderful and always very gracious.

We had mostly good weather with the exception of the tropical depression that passed through the area June 10-June 13. I?ve never experience a storm like that before and I hope I never see one again. The resort did their best to keep water out of everyone?s rooms and the power and satellite TV system working. The water was 6-8? deep flowing down the sidewalk like a stream. I believe they had twenty some inches of rain in 3 days. RH offered movies in the main building and a few games in the Allegria bar during the day to try and get the guests out of their rooms. Room service was always available, even during the worst downpours.

We both had massages at the RH spa. This is something we usually do on vacation. It was very nice and relaxing, but it wasn?t the best I?ve ever had, but it was in no way bad.

We ate in all the restaurants except Azia. All the restaurants were fabulous. My husbands? favorite restaurant was The Grill because he loved the marinade on the steaks. My favorite was a toss up between Spices and Ventannas. I loved the tortilla soup at Spices and the tenderloin filet at Ventannas. My husband wanted plain ice cream for dessert one night at Ventannas. They did not have any there and our waiter went to another restaurant to get him strawberry ice cream. The entire staff could not do enough for you.

The service around the pool was my only complaint. A lot of reviews I read raved about how great the service was and their glasses were never empty. We did not have this experience. Several times on many different days there were not enough wait staff to take care of the guests around the pool area. Don?t get me wrong, I didn?t mind getting my own drinks, but for the price we paid to stay there I would have thought they should have an extra waiter or two on staff at the pool.

Based on this experience I would return to the RH.

If anyone has any specific questions feel free to post back here or email me directly at [email protected].

Thanks for taking the time to post your trip report. I'm going to the RH in October (3rd trip), so right now I'm just lurking around the message boards reading trip reports to "get my fix". I'm glad to hear that the tropical depression didn't ruin your good time (since I travel during hurricane season, I know what it's like during the torrential downpours that area sometimes gets.)

Thanks for your tri report! I see from some of you other posts you won this on skyauction.com. Can you tell me if there were any problems completing your itinerary? Easy to book and get the dates you wanted? Any skyauction hiccups? Do you feel you saved money?

Thanks in advance for you reply and keep up the informative posts!

My husband and I also just returned a week ago after spending 8 days at the Royal Hideaway - this was our third stay at the RH - it was fantastic as always except for the ages of the guests - the word is out and the honeymooners have found my favorite hideaway for July - I don't have anything against the HM except for the age gap (some of them were younger then our children) and we are in our late forties - oh well - we are hoping to go back in Jan if the temps are going to be warm enough - Your trip report was great! - Thank you

To polyphemus:

I have booked several trips through skyauction and only once could they not get me my dates (it was for airfare) so my credit card was not charged. For all other trips/airfare my first requested dates have been granted. I priced out the RH package through a local travel agent as well as online and the closest price I found was $1000 more than I paid through skyauction so I would definately say I saved money.
