Royal at Playa Del Carmen or Paradisus Riviera Cancún

I am giving my son a gift and I need some help. Which is better for a couple in their late twenties, who likes great food and beautiful beach and entertainment. The Royal at Playa Del Carmen or Paradisus Riviera Cancun? My second question is, is there another Paradisus or Melia hotel which would be better. All input is appreciated. Thank you.

I haven't been to either, so not much of a help there, but based on Tripadvisor comments, Royal looks like the better choice. Personally, I prefer Playa Del Carmen as a town, much better than Cancun. In Fact, another possibility would be a non-AI in PDC. The town has dozens of great restaurants and hotels, and lots going on in general. It's also near and very accessible to some good sight-seeing as well. No need for an AI there for a young couple.

The Royal is adults only and is a great resort. Since it is right in the town of Playa it would provide them easy access to other off resort activities as well

We've stayed at The Royal Playa del Carmen and enjoyed it. The location is perfect for walking to 5th Avenue.
