Its beautiful. Its hard to get to. Its uncrowded. Its the best snorkeling anywhere. Its low key. Its not much on night life. Its a divers haven. Its warm. Its beaches are breathtaking. Its poor. Its people are extremely nice.

I have been three times- it is great! But what are you comparing it to? We snorkel and don't dive- both are great. There are small bars and places to stay..........
Who will you be with?

A dive instructor told me the snorkelling wasn't great in Roatan because of lots of seagrass. Is this true? And do you have to take a boat out from shore for good snorkelling? Also, I heard Dec./Jan. is the rainy season. Is this true?? I am interested in going there.

I can't speak for all of Roatan, but the snorkeling from West Bay Beach was the most spectacular I've seen anywhere except Australia. We swam out from the beach every day. Never took a boat any time to snorkel. I think Dec/Jan is the rainy season for most of Carribbean. We were there in Feb for one week and the weather was perfect every day.
