Riviera Maya: longest beach?
 

Hi,

Planning a vacation this coming February. Would like to stay in an all-inclusive somewhere on Riviera Maya. We have never been there before. We love long walks on the beach (lasting an hour or more). Some resorts I have looked at really seem great but are situated in a bay-like setting with a beach that spans about 1-1/2 miles at the most. That would make for a rather short walk for us. I would appreciate opinions on the best areas where we could match a great resort with ''unlimited walks'' on the beach. Thanks!

I don't think that's possible; most beaches are as you describe. Just have to go back and forth, up and down! Or, Bahia Principe Coba to Akumal? (a Tripadvisor answer)

Don't know what else you want in a resort, but you can walk a long way from the Iberostar Paraiso complex, and any of the resorts on Maroma Beach.

Can we walk 2-3 miles going north or south from most resorts on Maroma Beach? Is Secrets Maroma Beach a good place to stay if we like walking on the beach?

Although much of the Riviera Maya is long stretches of wide sandy beach, there are spots where the beach is interrupted by rocky penisulas. I'm not too familiar with AI's - I have no desire to stay in one in an area so rich in restaurants and beautiful beaches. If you really want to wander miles of beach, I would think Tulum would be the place to go. Tulum's beach is sprinkeled with small hotels and cabanas and there are long stretches that are almost empty. If you go to the locogringo.com website, there are aerial photos of the entire coast, and many of the resorts and hotels are labelled so you can get a good feel for the kind of beach you are looking for.

I would guess Tulum, but I don't know. I can tell you that I took an hour+ walk along the beach there some years ago, and there was nothing to keep me from going further in either direction but a dinner reservation.
