riviera maya in september
My husband and I are considering a week in the riviera maya in September. Can anyone who's been there offer some insight? Is it a good or bad time to go (barring the hurricane question of course)? We enjoy snorkling, sightseeing, good food, fishing, history and general down time. Is there a particular town you'd recommend over another? We typically go for higher quality accomodations - from resorts/hotels to villas - we're not into hustle/bustle like cancun. Suggestions or comments?

How do you bar the hurricane question? September on the coast is hot, sticky and rainy, and a hurricane cannot be ruled out.
IMO. you should consider the mountains north of Mexico City at that time of year. |
I travel to PDC every eight weeks or so and was down there the middle of Sept last year. I also live there all summer. Last year no rain to speak of but you can never tell. The rain that does happen lasts less than an hour. Take travel insurance if you're worried about hurricanes but it certainly doesn't stop me from going back and forth.

My husband and I are also planning a trip to the Riveria Maya at the end of Sept., after much debate about the weather we decided to just go for it. We did purchase trip insurance so for any reason we can cancel and reschedule if need be. Better to be safe than be sorry.
Have a great time, if the weather is hot and sticky no big deal since most our time will be spent in the water either swimming or snorkeling. We will be staying at the Iberostar Parasio Maya, didn't want all the crowd from Cancun. |
momkof4,
You will love the IB Maya. It is a beautiful resort. For great information on the IB Maya, go to http://www.iberostar-board.com/boards/index.php If you really want to splurge, upgrade to the IB Paqraiso Grand which is adults only and total luxxury. |
