rio in december?

I'm trying to plan a honeymoon in December and would love to go to Rio, but am afraid it will rain the entire time. Has anyone been? I want to go but the beach is a big deal and who wants to sit out on the beach while it is pouring. Thanks for any advice.

December is a perfect time. A few years ago I spent two months there in Dec & Jan. There is always a possibility of rain since it's summer & will be humid, but we got a good amount of sunshine too.

Just got back from Rio about a month ago.
You will love the beaches there as Rio is virtually surrounded by beaches.

You will of course go up to Sugarloaf Mountain and also Corcovado Mountain to see Christ the Redeemer.!!

Have nice time. It is always hot and humid there.

I have been to Rio in December many times and the weather was fine. The real rainy season is in March, December shouldn't be a problem.

We were there last December and spent New years eve . It was drizzling the entire evening - but there were 2 million people on the beach for the New year's eve party and fireworks - not to be missed.
It is warm and humid even though it was cloudy and drizzling the next 3 days - Not a beach weather.

For your honeymoon I would suggest spening it in Salvador Di Bahia - guarenteed warm weather and beautiful beaches and then spending just New Years eve on the beach in Rio - it is an experience.

not sure if you'll get this, was a long time ago you placed the post. last end december and january were the wettest months ever. It rained nearly every day for a month, drizzle but a pain, and then in 3 months we only had 3 days rain! Rio as it's in tropical area and surrounded by forests is subject to rain in summer at any time and we cant guarantee that it will or wont rain at any time. Or how long it will last. If you want to have a better chance, come to rio for a couple fo days over new year, do the sites then head for the norhteast, apart from perfect beaches for swimming, sunning etc its cheaper and prob less touristy, try out Natal, porto de galinhas, fortaleza, let me know if i can help more
