Rio Bars Copacabana
I will be in central Copacabana in October. Can anyone please recommend any good bars/clubs for fun loving twenty-somethings? (not places for picking up girls please!)
Thanks a lot.
Anne :0)

Well, in Copacabana when I want a nice quietr drink with music I go to the Horse neck bar in the Sofitel Rio Palace hotel, very nice with piano music also the Rio Othon Palace hotel has a nice lobby bar. All the 5 star hotels have nice lobby bars in Copacabana. If you venture out a little try Peoples in Leblon or Mistura Fina in Lobao or Vinicius in Ipanema. Check out this website, he lists bars and dance places: www.blameitonrio4travel.com. There is plenty of info on this website also check out www.ipanema.com, they list bars too.

Im sure my friend above made a typo thats Mistura fina in Lagoa. There are other nice bars in Lagoa which is not to far from Copacabana, try bar Lagoa or upstairs at Mostarda. There is also a Mexican restaurant in Jardim Botanico called Cozumel which on Monday nights is a real party for one price all you can eat and drink, real fun.

Considered by critics the # 1 baritone saxophonist in the world, James Carter is back in Rio accompanied by Gerald Gibbs (organ), Leonard King (drums) and his wide collection of woodwind instruments. This 33-year-old multi-faceted American from Detroit proved his talent early on and at the tender age of 17 was playing with Wynton Marsalis. Carter, a snappy dresser, also plays the clarinet, bass clarinet, oboe and bass flute.

Concert: The James Carter Organ Trio.
Venue: Mistura Fina Address: Avenida Borges de Medeiros, 3207, Lagoa, tel.2537-2844.
Dates and time: August 16 and 17, 8pm and 11pm, respectively.
Prices: R$58 to R$68.
Best Bar in which to-be-seen

Blame it on Rio! If youre looking for someone special or just want to see and be seen, Veja-Rios jury elected not one, but two places as best in which to-be-seen bars. Baronneti now occupies the address, which was formerly home to the legendary night club Hippo. With its lounge decoration style, Baronneti offers a loud dance floor and a restaurant on the 2nd floor. Drinks tend to be pretty generous. Melt, on the other hand, was chosen for its subtler ambiance. The restaurant is candle-lit, while the 2nd floor hosts concerts and can be rented for private parties.

Baronneti Rua Barão da Torre, 354, Ipanema. Tel.: 2522-1460. Credit cards accepted: Amex, Diners and Mastercard. Admission prices: gentlemen (R$45 on Saturdays, R$40 Thursday/Friday, and R$30 Sunday-Wednesday); ladies (R$25 Thursday-Saturday, and R$20 Sunday-Wednesday).

Melt Rua Rita Ludolf, 47, Leblon. Tel.: 2249-9309. Credit cards accepted: Diners, Mastercard

There is a disco called HELP, we have nicknamed it the "OFFICE". It's the largest disco in South America. What a place, a must see. Here it's a regular disco, great music, large dance floor, a lot of room.
Help Discoteca Av. Atlantica, 3432

Went to Brazil this past April. Had a FABULOUS time. Would not recommend going to HELP however. I stayed at the Marriot in Copacabana and HELP was down the street. The club looked seedy from the outside and even the locals told us to stay away. The place is known to be a prostitute pickup joint.

To Copatourist, what you are saying is true but if you didn't go in and just listened to people you missed a great club. The best music, very big dance floor/ light show the whole works. You don't know unless you try it, the club has been there for about 20 years, outside may need a facelift but they just refurbished inside a little. For a bunch of tourists who are looking to have a good time to dance/drink and you don't want to travel far,it's ver safe, its not a bad place.
