Maybe since we are from Canada and weren't really entering the U.S. that made the difference? It was really nice to not have to get our luggage an extra time. I didn't realize we were so lucky, I thought this was just how it worked. It's definitely worth asking if they could just "red tag" your luggage all the way to your final destination. That's the word they used. Maybe the "lingo" will help!
